Do It Yourself Hunting

Dakotah Sausage Stuffer Review

do it yourselfThe Dakotah Sausage Stuffer machines are used by home sausage makers everywhere. No parts to rust and  rugged enough to stand up to years of frequent use. Sausage making has never been easier as you use the Dakotah sausage stuffer to fill natural, beef, hog,  sheep,  collagen, and fibrous casings. Minimal 15 PSI water pressure does all the work. Efficient, light weight, easy to clean, and mostly a one-man operation.

do it yourselfOptional Jerky Adapter produces two (1 1/8" x 3/16") strips of ground jerky at once or three (3/8" diameter) snack sticks at once. Simply screw the optional adaptor head into the sausage stuffer, snap in the jerky insert to make ground jerky strips two at a time, the snack stick insert to make beef sticks or pepperoni sticks three at a time or the skinless sausage insert to make skinless franks two at a time. The Dakotah Sausage Stuffer will probably be the last sausage making equipment you will ever have to buy.

Elknut's Instructional Videos Review

How many times have you called to an elk only to have him run in the opposite direction? I am sure that you have often wondered why. Paul Medel (aka Elknut) explains elk vocalizations so you may understand what to do, and not to do in each situation. If you are looking for a video that shows bugling bulls up close, this is not the video that you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a graduates degree in elk vocalization that puts bulls in front of you more often than not, then this is the video for you. Even seasoned pros can learn something from these instructional videos. Definitely a must have for the do it yourself hunter!!!! And WOW, check out the bulls on his website. Stealth Stabilizers Review

Jerry, the owner and founder of Stealth Archery is no stranger to what hunters require in a stabilizer. Jerry and other outside resources have done extensive testing with Stealth stabilizers. With a multi chambered design, these stabilizers cover the broad spectrum of frequencies that a bow produces, thus dampening any sensation that may be traveling through to the handle. Not only do these stabilizers do the trick, Jerry has been able to produce them in a variety of finishes to match all of the major bow manufacturers.

VanTec Review

VaneTecMy archery beginnings go back to a time when Fred Bear was about the only brand of bow and the only size arrow available was a 2117. Fletches were made from feathers and you held your string with a shooting tab.

Innovations and progress have brought a new bread of archer. An archer who is not only tech savvy, but also is driven by a commitment to quality products to meet the demands of today’s hunting world.

As a tournament archer and back country hunter, I have grown to trust only one vane to fletch my arrows with. That name is VaneTec. Before VaneTec I would open my arrow case only to find that my plastic vanes had built a memory. The fletches would be headed in every direction other than the way that I had originally fletched them.

As hunting season approaches, even the toughest of broadhead targets begin to show their age. As arrows pass through your broadhead target in the way that you hope they pass through that buck of a lifetime, you will find that the fletches will bounce back and look as if you had just fletched them.

Don’t let vane choice fool you. You may feel that they are a minute part of hunt preparation, but they are what puts your arrow on the mark every time!

Dead Down Wind - Review

Dead DownwindFive years ago while working at Cabelas in Rogers, MN, a new product caught my eye. Maybe it was the shiny orange bottle? Maybe it was the catchy logo? I’m not really sure what attracted me to it initially, but after reading the science behind and using Dead Down Wind Scent elimination products, I was hooked.

After doing a bit more research on DDW some interesting facts came to light. At first glance, DDW may not seem any different than the myriad of scent prevention products littering your truck floor. But in reality, a key point sets them apart.

Unlike other scent prevention products, DDW doesn’t actually “cover” your scent. Its’ proprietary enzyme solution actually “eats” odor causing bacteria to get rid of human and other incidental odors you may have picked up on your body or clothing. These enzymes actually stay effective for some time, continually eating scent causing bacteria that try so hard to make us deer scaring machines!

After using all of DDW products over the last 5 years I have learned to believe in every one of them. Many times I’ve come straight from work to the tree stand with nothing but a wipe down and foam up with DDW products and had deer straight down wind without detection. My wife will attest that after a day of pouring concrete, taking a whiff of me is not a pleasant experience! However, such is the life of the hard working DIY hunter, and sometimes the two hours after work and before dark is all we get. It’s nice spending that extra half hour in the tree stand rather than in the shower! DDW products can give you this edge by getting rid of odors quickly and effectively.

Obviously we tout the effectiveness of DDW products in our hunting endeavors. However, they do not take the place of hunting the wind smart. However, I have witnessed the effectiveness of the products first hand so many times; it’s hard not to sing its praises. I and the rest of Team Back 40 will be using DDW this fall in hopes when that PY bucks steps into range dead down wind of us, we get that extra couple of seconds required to put him on the wall!
